The urge to stop (running) is one of the most intense parts of running an ultra.
It’s the point where the road ahead seems endless and you struggle to see how you’ll ever finish.
You might think you’ve done something horribly wrong or that ultras are not for you. But even seasoned runners like Karel go through this!
And that's when he applies his number one rule in ultra: Relentless Forward Progress.
Every step forward is a step toward the finish line. No matter how slow you go, you’re moving. So, the tiredness and difficult moments will pass sooner or later.
In those moments, it’s tempting to stop. But that doesn’t take away the pain and mental struggle. It just lengthens it.
So, whatever you do, keep moving forward.
