In recent years endurance athletes have started to significantly increase the number of calories per hour during races.
In the past the general assumption was that the digestive system was not able to absorb more than 60gr of carbs per hour.
Practice and research have now demonstrated that most athletes can easily train their digestive system to consume app 90gr of carbs per hour and it is well-known that elite endurance athletes (eg IronMan elite athletes) will consume up to 160gr of carbs per hour.
Elite ultra-runners are believed to consume between 80 and 120gr of carbs per hour.
