How do you train for uphill when you live in a flat area?
It’s not ideal… But when you get creative there’s a lot you can do.
When I train for Barkley for example (18 000m elevation), I only have a 30m hill at my disposal.
So, I have to use some tricks to increase the training load and make these short hills look more like the long climbs in Barkley.
Here are 2 exercises I do to fatigue my legs, which you can do too:
1. Start with single-leg jumps up the hill (20x left, 20x right)
2. Load up your muscles by sitting against a tree (30-60s)
By building up tension in your muscles, you simulate the feeling of running on tired muscles while also increasing the training load.
