This is what a week of strength training looks like when you want more power for your uphills.
We wanted to share this to make strength training more tangible, but this is not a complete training program.
Day 1: focus on knee joint
1) Step-ups: 3 sets of 12 (each leg)
2) Dynamic split squats: 3 sets of 12 (each leg)
3) Bird dogs: 3 sets of 12 (6 per side)
4) Calf raises: 3 sets of 12 (slowly & controlled)
5) Single-leg squats: 2 sets of 10 (each leg)
Day 2: focus on hip joint
1) Bulgarian split squats: 3 sets of 10 (each leg)
2) Lateral band walks: 3 sets of 12 steps
3) Mountain climbers: 3 sets of 30 seconds
4) Single-leg deadlifts: 3 sets of 10 (each leg)
5) Hip extensions: 3 sets of 12
Keep in mind:
- Start each day with a warm-up
- This is an example, not a starting point
- Drop sets if you're new to this, ease into it
- This is body weight, (slowly) add weight to progress
Most of these exercises can be done at home, but a gym adds variety and helps you get into the strength training mindset.
