Next to practicing nutrition, it’s also essential to test your gear months before your main race. It’s key you don’t (have to) try out anything new on race day.
There are 2 things to keep in mind when it comes to gear:
1. You need to know exactly what you need.
Do you need a headlamp, a rain jacket or pants, poles, or a watch for navigation? And which headlamp, jacket, poles, or watch exactly?
2. You need to know exactly how to use it.
Your headlamp or watch is of no use if you don’t know how long it lasts or how you’ll recharge it. Your jacket needs to keep you warm in the exact race conditions. And if you don’t know how to work with your poles, don’t expect you’ll be using them much.
And there are many other key equipment pieces to think of like shoes, socks, hats…
So, don’t wait to practice your gear. Start sooner rather than later.
