If you want to push your limits in ultra running, you have to be able to run your own race.
Take it from coach Karel. This is what he learned from his first PCT FKT attempt in 2016:
“In 2016, I looked too much at what people had done before me on the PCT. I broke the record by only 22 hours because I thought the previous record holder had already done what was physically possible. And only if I surpassed myself I would be able to do a tiny bit better.
In 2023, I took a different approach and built from my own strengths. I wasn’t comparing myself to my 1st FKT on a day-to-day basis. Instead, I just did what I could every day. And I ended up breaking the record by over 5 days.”
What more can we say? Run your own race!
