Sometimes we can get inspired by these huge goals like “I want to run UTMB one day”.
And then you remind yourself you now struggle to run 20km. And you put yourself straight back with your feet on the ground.
You laugh a bit about having that crazy dream and put it in the closet again.
Please don’t do that! If this goal makes your heart sing, don’t put it away. It’ll keep knocking at your door and the knocks will only get louder.
Instead, chop it up! If you want to run UTMB one day, don’t focus on running 171km and 10 000m D+. But focus on running your first half marathon on trail, then move to a marathon, a 50km, an 80km…
It might seem that all the joy is in finishing UTMB, but you’ll experience so much more fun in all the steps leading up to it than in actually finishing it.
Don’t let the bigness of your dream intimidate you, use it as a magnet and allow yourself to joyfully be pulled in that direction.
